Emmanuel, whose art is shown below, was a catalyst in the formation of the Peace Building Workshop in Zanzibar in 2007. He created the art while he participated in the Dogodogo Street Children Trust in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, founded by Maryknoll Sister Jean Pruitt in 1992 (who provided the photos below). Emmanuel and other street children from the Dogodogo Centre, tell their stories with words and drawings in the book “dogodogo” by Kasia Parham (available from Amazon.com). Emmanuel is on his own Search For Peace when he says in his story, “ Forgiveness is very important. Once you have got through dark times, you have to free your heart from anything bad. Then you can move on.” Some of these artworks were created during a “Peace Camp.”
Recently, Emmanuel graduated from the equivalent of high school, and is
the first recipient in Tanzania of the Cambridge Brilliance Award For
Art.
